Army Wins the Battle on Both Fronts at Lake George
August 31, 2014
Heading into this weekend was Army's first chance at taking a stance in the conference and they came up big winning both the male and female team races.
On the ladies side, Bria Edwards (Penn State) swam away from the competition with the fastest female swim time of the day (20:33) and was never seen again. She followed up the swim with a 1:12:04 bike and a blazing sub 40 minute 10k. All in all she ended with the fastest splits for each segment of the race besides T1.
Angelica Dickson (Army) finished in 2nd with a time of 2:12:14, leading her team to an overall victory for the day. Mackenzie Williams and Catherine Sedy also finished in the top 10 for Army.
Natalie Tukan (BU) finished 3rd overall, with the day's second fastest swim of 21:25. Boston University finished second on the day, and collected their first omnium points of the season.
Finally, Riley Lantz (UVM) continued her strong season finishing 4th and moving to 1st overall in the season standings with 194 points out of a possible 200 thusfar. With Lantz's performance, UVM is now the 1st place women's team in the season standings.
On the male side, Jason West (Penn State) stole the show with a blazing time of 1:50:20, including a 10k run time of 31:47. Having only completed this one race thus far he is still not first in the conference, but if he completes the minimum three races anything less than first overall would be astounding.
With that said, this is a team sport and it was Army who won the team battle with solid performances throughout their lineup. Their 6 male athletes all finished in the top 25, with Bradley Bachand leading the way with a time of 2:12:27.
Penn State came away with second overall with Cody Moore and Matthew Martino having solid performances behind their leader Jason West. Cody Moore has the second fastest bike split of the day with a 1:03:48.
UCONN rounded out the top three teams with Karim Mabrouk finishing 2nd overall on the day and moving to 1st in the season standings.
Overall the season standings has had quite the shakeup, and the coming races are looking to be very intriguing. Follow us on facebook to keep up with the latest conference news!
