Westchester Race Recap

For the first time in several years Westchester did not serve as the NECTC Championship, but is challenging athletes with back to back Olympic distance races leading into the championship race in Montauk.

Teresa Groton (West Point) continued her undefeated streak, and with one more win she will be the first athlete in the NECTC to win all the conference races in one year. She has now tallied wins at West Point, Lake George, Buzzard's Bay and Westchester. She posted the fastest splits in all three segments to finish in a total time of 2:17:01. Teammates Payton Boylston and Hannah White finished in second and third respectively.

With the top three females West Point took the female team win, but our former female champions gave them quite the run. Led by Marissa DiBella, UConn posted 4th, 5th, 7th, and 9th place finishes to finish second in the female team scoring. In third was Yale led by Sanelma Heinonen who finished 8th.

The male race gave us another Ralston v. Slife showdown and didn't disappoint. Jacob Slife (West Point) came out of the water 3rd overall, but Spencer Ralston (St. Mike's) exited in 6th just under 40 seconds back. Through transitions and the first half of the bike Ralston was able to claw his way back to Slife when they

then battled up and down the hills of Rye. After posting the fastest bike split of the day in 1:04:17, Ralston exited onto the run in a near tie with Slife. From there the race remained a dead heat until about halfway on the run when Slife put in a surge on a hill to pull away. Slife finished with the fastest run time of the day in a time of 34:54, and Ralston fell behind finishing in 36:14. Andrew Keenan (Drexel) returned to the scene with a solid race in his own right. Keenan came 5th out of the water, and with the third fastest bike split of 1:06:44 was able to stay in striking distance of Slife and Ralston for the bike portion of the race. However,

not far removed from hip surgery, his 15th place run couldn't quite keep him in the hunt, but his dominating swim and bike performances still kept him on the podium.

West Point took the male team victory with 543 points, followed by Columbia with 432 points. Columbia was led by 11th place finisher Nikolaj Koors Hoff who finished in 2:18:20. They were able to edge out Yale who scored 420 points. Yale was led by 4th place finisher Vincent DiMassa who finished in 2:09:20.
